The Louisiana Purchase was just made and the United States wants to explore its newly acquired land. Lewis and Clark were asked by President Jefferson to set out and discover what was on this land. You are an explorer on this Lewis and Clark Expedition. As a member of the crew, Lewis and Clark have assigned you the task of planning out the expedition. You need to use your skills in Mathematics, Science, and History of the time period to plan this expedition with the best of your knowledge. There are 33 total crew members, including yourself, that are planning on taking this trip. As the first part of your assignment, you will decide what supplies the crew needs to bring and how much of each supply. To help you with that, you will research the types of terrain that the crew will travel over, using the drawn out map of the land. Research will also be done to figure out what the weather was like and what was expected of the climates. Was it winter when they traveled? Was it in the middle of the summer? What clothing would they need? Lewis and Clark tell you that when you set off on the expedition, you will encounter Indians. That being said, having supplies to trade with them are necessary and you need to figure out the economics behind that act of trading. All of your work will be written out in a spiral notebook to be turned in to President Jefferson, Lewis, and Clark to be approved before the expedition begins. Good luck!
